Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) is an American retail store chain. Merchandise includes shoes, handbags and accessories. The first DSW store opened in Dublin, Ohio, in 1991. For nearly 20 years, the Shonac Corporation operated DSW until it was acquired by Value City in 1998. By this time, there were 48 DSW stores. Retail Ventures, an affiliate of the company, acquired DSW in 2004. One year later, DSW became a publicly traded company. In 2008, the company launched DSW's website. The company made a few key acquisitions between 2011 and 2016. These included the acquisition of Retail Ventures, Ebuys and Town Shoes. In 2019, DSW was rebranded to Designer Brands and changed its NYSE ticker symbol to "DBI". By 2020, the DSW company owned and franchised over 500 stores. Last year's revenue was over $3.49 billion. DSW's private-label footwear brands include Poppie Jones, Kelly & Kate, Lulu Townsend and Audrey Brook. In addition to its stores in the United States, DSW has store franchising agreements in Canada and the Middle East. DSW is a premier shoe company that provides a variety of shopping experiences for customers.
